Bicycle Speedo

I've recently noticed a few cars (Mostly MK's) with bicycle speedo's on the dash? What are these for? is it a locost digital dash? Does the speedo work with accuracy up to high speed?

I can imagine stuff like average speed etc would come in handy though.

They are cheap and easy to fit (some are wireless) and calibrate. You just have to makesure you get oone that reads high enough and either has a backlight (or you can fit a light on the dash) to pass SVA
