At no point EVER do you see the goverment or these dumb organisations try to promote better driver training! If they really cared, they would spend money on making people safer and more responsible. A harder driving test would be the 1st option, followed by restrictions on your license.

I say its ALL down to the driver. Your vehicle should be properly maintained as a matter of course. If its not you shouldnt be driving it!
There are so many over confident drivers, who think the roads are just like their Nintendo Game console, and they are as good as Michael Shumacher or
Stig Blomqvist. They think you just hit the reset button after an accident and all is well again!
Which is why there are more young Male car accidents than any other category (not necessarily just down to gamers)
Life is dangerous... Learn to deal with it.

as a 22 year old male driver i have to disagree with you wilkingj.
After completely totalling my car I just crawled out without a scratch, ache or bruise.
therefore, on that evidence, im certain that im invincible and that real world driving is no more dangerous than gran turismo.

when I was 17 (too long ago
) spun off the road and into a hedge at **mph - and all I got was dizzy so I must be invincible too

Ah thats EXACTLY my point. You shouldnt have had an accident in the first place. If ALL drivers (assuming others were involved) were driving properly and within their and their cars limits. The accident should NOT have occured in the first place.
Something went wrong somwhere, be it man or machine to cause the accident. Which is the point I am making.
As for crawling out unhurt... You were just lucky.
Anyway glad to see you are unhurt. Which is the main thing.

it was driver (my) error in my case just to clarify - the accident definitely shouldnt have happened in the first place.
I'm just glad I rubbed my nose in it in a £1500 car before I ended upside down in my £8000 Dax with no roof..
Well, if governments cared that much, they'd put more time and effort into decent public transit, which in many places is nonexistant or unreliable at best. But they don't really care, they're just worried someone will sue them, as the world is run by insurance companies and lawyers.
I think its safe to say that almost everyone on here (inc. me) would agree that its the drivers fault regardless of the road
but thats not to say that some of the major roads couldn't be improved - some of the main roads up north (ie the highlands) are lethal
especial ones like the A9 where its a dual carageway for a few miles here and there - some people seem to forget that its not a dual carrage way the
whole way

The trouble with all these sort of issues is that the arguments get so polarised. It's either because of speed, or it's the road, or
it's the drivers, or it's... The reality is it's a combination of factors and only treating one without treating the whole issue either
doesn't improve things or makes them worse. The rules get more and more complicated and start being part of the problem.
Percieved risk is also a problem; The car's safer and thier brakes are better... so we can go faster. Have you noticed when a road has been
relaid but the lines not redone yet, everyone drives slower? Thats the effect of percieved risk. Get rid of air bags and seat belts and replace them
with a big spike in the centre of the wheel... then see who drives beyond thier ability!

i think people just need to accept that there are a lot of cars on the road and the inevitable fact is that from time to time some of them are going
to hit each other or something.
what pisses me off is when they try and penalise everyone for mistakes made by a minority.
they should come off this speed hunt and put a new rule in. if you crash you get points for a minor crash and a ban for a big one.
also they should implement the same knock for knock insurance system that australia has. the way i believe it works is if you have a knock nobody is
at fault in the eyes of the insurer (you can stall be at fault with the police) they just pay out.
they did this because the legal fees for proving who was at fault were becoming higher than the cost of just fixing the cars and being done with it.
i think they also get 3rd party cover bundled in with their road tax.
result = insurance is cheep in oz
I don't agree with getting points for being involved in an accident - what happens if you're stopped and get shunted?
The cost of motoring and associated costs will rise no matter. It's not a case of using the massive sum that Super Gord already takes off us
because this doesn't go back into motoring anyay.
Public transport is dire so we have no choice but take some more pain as the scurge (and open cheque book) of this country that we are.
