strange on line tax probs?
daniel mason - 5/2/10 at 08:06 PM

just tried to tax my mnr on line but every time i tried it said no MOT details were on their system! the car was first registered in 2009 so it has never had an mot and does not need one until 2012! what could be the problem?

Is it on a 09 plate or age related?

age related j plate. but was sva'd in may 2009 so is not even 1 year old yet!

Then there is something possibly wrong with the paperwork as the J plate would need an MOT.

What does it say on the V5 for the registration date and make of car? If this is correct you will need to sort it with DVLA....Good luck.

My MNR was on a G plate and registered in 2008, never needed an MOT when taxing.

section 3 on v5 says sva passed 11/05/2009/
section 4; date of first registration in uk 17/06/2009
make; mnr

Another DVLA cockup then
What will the police database show on your car if DVLA thnks it needs an mot and you don't have it done?

To be honest with you, I wouldn't have tried to tax it online because I would have anticipated that it would do that, mostly because I don't expect the software they use to be able to take into account special case like this. I don't want you to think I'm saying your stupid, I've just had alot of bad experience with simillar things (Try and find anything out on Direct.Gov and you'll understand why).
I'd bet money that the software reads the age part of the plate, in this Case J, and then for anything before 07 goes on to check MOT, I doubt the software checks to see if there is any other reason why you might not need one.

Not true I'm afraid.

I taxed mine online last week with no problem , age related on a J (1971) suffix, SVAd Feb '09.

Annoyingly even though the donor Escort was registered as "Historic" the kit is not and consequently I have to pay for the tax.
