I'm looking to buy a new Astra van but not to sure on what model/engine to be going for.
Anyone know anything about these,I see you get 1.3,1.7 and 1.9.
I'm looking for diesel only.

Hi I have a 1.7td only bad point on it is if the deisel pump breaks which if its an older one it will, get at least £1100 ready!

What year of van is this on ?
Mine is a v reg 99 all models pre this date ar prone not sure about the later ones.
If you could find a 1.7 Ti ( Ti in red) about 110Bhp very free reving engine will easily see the wrong side of 120 very quickly.
These are almost as quick as the 1.9 150 bhp engines in my vectra.
Check the Ti is in red though as if its in silver its only high 80's early 90's Bhp.
Good solid engines but if secondhand beware on clutch wear as is normally clutch and dualmass flywheel... not cheap.
Edited to add, having driven the 1300 version recently (old shape (08)) it struggles low down for torque but once its going it's fine but you do
have to keep the revs up a lot.
The company i work for runs a fleet of over 120 astra vans/ estates the only issues that we have tend to be driver abuse (read clutch) and a very
annoying thing is there is no water temp guage on most, if you have a coolant loss, the first thing you know is either loss of heat from the heaters
or the engine seizes !

My plan was to try and get something new,I was going to get rid of my trooper via the scrappage scheme.

It is just a works van but at the same time I'll be in it every day so I do want something decent.
Mileage wise,I assume they will all get 45 + mpg ?

Ask a dealer, couldn't find much info on vauxhalls website with regards to the engines.
I do get to drive most of them, 45 Mpg ?, well it depends on how you drive it and also if you have a roof rack and ladders, with a heavy duty rack and
tripple ladders you can knock off 100 miles per tank.
Look also at the emissions, the 1.9 120 Bhp may make less Co2 than the 1.7 Ti(red).
We had the last red Ti delivered January so there should be some around.

don`t go for the 1.3. Complete lack of torque until turbo kicks in. Very scarry if you try to nip into a gap -noting happens untill 2- 2.5k revs.
1.9 is an absoloute hoot.
1.7 is a normal sort of engine.

The Ti being red on the 1.7 was only applicable until 08 when they released the 1.3. Instead of having an 80hp 1.7 and a 100hp 1.7 with a red Ti the 1.3 replaced the 80bhp model, and all the 1.7 were 100bhp with Ti in silver. There is also a 1.7 eco which has 110bhp and lower tax band of £35 i believe
dont forget the 1.9 comes in 120ps and 150ps..
