Last Feb I bought a Scenic 4x4, unseen off e-bay. Partly due to the weather and partly because it'd be a better tow car. Trouble was I
couldn't get on with it as a day to day car; Too slow and cumbersom. So seeing as the works van was getting a bit long in the tooth we took 2 of
the rear seats out, boxed it out and used it instead of the van.
now it's paying for itself. It's brilliant in the snow! Last night I went home in it and to the local country park to walk the dog. Never
put a wheel out of place even on the 1:6 hill to the park, where all the residents with "proper 4x4's" couldn't get up; It just
weaved through the chaos!
Good buy then!!
Sounds like its paid off.
Love it when you buy something from ebay and it turns out better than expected
Thanks
Dan
I like cars which don't scream out their 4WD capabilities.
Therefore, I quite like the Scenic RX4.
I better get on with the 4x4 p100 pickup

I might get one.
Just enough 4wd capability to be usefull and no more.
I had a Passat 4motion before and that was a nice thing.
Zero additional ground clearance though, so loses out a little in that respect.
Just off to google RX4 prices.

A few years ago TopGear tested an RX4 aginst a Freelander and a Volvo XC70. Raced them accross a wet field, towing caravans. RX4 got to the finish as
the Freelander got halfway and the Volvo was still at the start line.
5thGear did a race between a Panda4x4 and a RangeRover out of a quarry. Ended in a virtal dead heat.
My mates have coined the phrase 'quattro smug' for me. The Audi loves this weather
Interested in the 4x4 P100 though. I assume the plan is just to transplant the engine, box, front diff, hubs, etc from an XR4x4. But what are you
doing at the back? P100's have solid axles and leaf springs, don't they?
Chris
And my Snowmobile Bongo has beds, a little stove, beds TV etc so if I do get stuck behind any of these 'soft-roaders' then we can pull up, get our PJs on and have a brew.....
