Pilgrim Sumo

I though i had decided on a MNR votex running a new zetec and throttle bodies. However, the more i see the sumo / other cobra replicas it makes me think, can i stretch my budget and take longer building one.

Anyone else built one? Was it worth it?

youll probably get more fun in the MNR or a 7 replica than a Cobra and still have money in your pocket. The Cobra will possibly get you more looks and is more practical. But to do it right you need the big power plant to get that thunderous roar.

Completely different animals.
Cobra is a Cruiser and Bruiser, 7 is a agile racer.

What 'did' you want to use the 7 for?

just general driving really, maybe the very very very odd track day, but tbh, that would only be to make the most of it

Very nice "7" maybe 10 K, very nice Cobra maybe 30 K. You pays your money and takes your choice. Cheers Ray

I think you'd build a Pilgrim Sumo for under £20k in my humble opinion.

Of course if you were "stupid" () enough to start looking at other Cobra Rep's then that figure would go from £15k-18k ish to £25k and then £35k etc upt to £60k if you were really "stupid".............

if you wanted a cobra, i'd buy a registered one, strip it and rebuild, (if its a little "shoddy". saves on IVA etc (and all the additional cost of registering)

Look out for the TV series "A car is born" with Mark Evans - he built a Sumo. His initial budget was £10K, but blew it when he got a big Chevy V8! I think his final cost was around £15K.

Admittedly that was 4 or 5 years ago, when the programme was made...

I think it's probably more like 10 years ago now David From Mark Evans' website, it says he devised the 'is born' format in 1999, so probably more like 12 years.

How time flies....

As for the OP, as has been said, the two cars are totally different. Do you enjoy blasting down country lanes with a friend, or A road cruising with the missus?

Just looked up its production company (i2i) - it was made in 1999! It seems like only yesterday - mind you, it was on TV a week or so ago...

I guess that the previous estimate of around £20K wouldn't be far wrong in that case.

When you look at it that way, a nice 7 sounds like the better option lol
