Hello Chaps
Just purchased a mini one with a slipping clutch, any idea whats involved before I go mad and start to do this myself, is it moving stuff away from
the gearbox and drop out from below or engine out
Cheers Mark
Never done one but if the subfame goes below the driveshaft you will need to drop the subframe.
Any MINIs I encountered had the Midland gearbox (Rover 214/Peugeot).
There are a couple of tricks when refitting this gearbox.
To prevent the clutch release bearing coming off , the clutch release arm on the gearbox should be pinned full back by inserting a bolt in a vacant
threaded hole adjacent to the arm.
There is a vacant hole in the top of this gearbox exactly above the gearboxes centre of gravity if you can suspend the gearbox from this it makes
getting the gearbox back in a dawdle.
The correct oil for this gearbox is MTF94 best bought from Landrover specialists but you can use Dextron automatic transmision fluid or 10w/40 or
0w/40 engine oil for top ups.
Some of the threads used on this gearbox are non standard so try and keep track of which bolt came from where.
pretty straight forward drop the subframe, have had a few with very tight bolts holding the subframe on and have had a few bolts snap despit e working
them properly
Thanks chaps, not really looking forward to it....
