MX-5 clutch change anyone?
Norfolkluegojnr - 6/7/11 at 07:50 AM

Hi Guys,

Just wondered if anyone had done a clutch change on an mk1 MX-5 and could advise on difficulty/problems that you encountered?

My 'bargain' won't be much of one if I have to take it to Mr Clutch!

Is it a home job or do you really need a pit or ramps?

I've googled it for you

I suppose it's possible with a couple of axle stands, but beware that you're going to remove some heavy bits and if a gearbox drops on any part of you it's probably going to mean a trip to Mr Hospital. It is (generally) easier than a fwd one as it's all in a nice straight line

Did this on my driveway with the car on 4 axle stands when the wife destroyed clutch and diff. Took me about 5 hours including changing the diff. Only advice is start inside the car first, removing the gear stick.

Thanks Deezee, i saw that link, but I can't decide if that makes it seem easier or harder!

Bill - doable at home then? I don't want to start this and not be able to finish it.

Yes no problem with just a basic tool kit ; socket set, ring spanners etc
