Freelander VC Removal- Bell Engineering ??
T66 - 5/9/11 at 04:52 PM

Ok Ok - Nat (Ns Dev) told me not to buy one !

But I have.....

2002 TD4 Commercial for £1900

Few drips here and there, grubby interior (now cleanish) but ideal for hauling shat to the skip

Its snagging a bit on full lock, feels like the vcu is on its way out, telephoned Bell Engineering today (The son is a Locoster) sorry cannot recall your name.

Anyway, Ive dropped the front prop flange off, and the rear is pretty tight. No room to get a decent socket and ring spanner on the flange nut/strardrive heads.

My shiny chisel is poised, please save my nuts. A night in wd4o may help hopefully.

anyone done one recently ??

No tips on setting it on fire, Im already an expert at that as Ive owned a Lada for years.

If it's only snagging a bit on full lock I would say "they all do that sir" if they didn't the vcu would be eff all use, though if Bell say it's knackered you're probably better listening to them than me.

Sorry but I've only undid the front from the IRD to do a 1.8 engine swap

Its a difficult one......

Mine snags up in short time, ie 5 or 6 ft .

feels like the handbrake is on.

Bells say its either on its way west, or has done already, however its the knock on effect that bothers me, replacing the vcu from them is £200.

Winding up the reduction box and bursting it is a pain in the bottom, so Im speculating on a vcu now.

Once they are back from their holidays...

Bell engineering, that will be dad and myself what are you struggling to remove, the prop from the vcu?

MK9R - 5/9/11 at 09:55 PM

Arh just reread it. You could always just remove the front prop from the vcu and IRD and leave rear prop and vcu attached to car, when I fit vcu's for customers I don't actually remove the props.

My Haynes came today. So I didn't notice the boltheads inside the uj.

I've marked it all up so it goes back up ok.

I gave up trying to get the rear prop flange bolts out, ordered new ones and cut them off.

The vc carrier bearings will get replaced while its off.
