I'm looking for a cheap fun car sub 2k price, want it as an everyday car been looking at 106 rallye s1 as I love them, also golf gti mk3 or mk2 but think it would be rough, any other ideas? Glanced at mx5 but don't think I'm sold on them
Just let a mk4 1.8 golf turbo go for £1800 remapped to 200 bhp its a buyers market
Hyundai scoupe? Iirc they're rather under rated.
Can you get a Fabia vrs for that kind of money?
MR2 I guess... I'll post more when I think of them
Peugeot 306 gti6
Fiat coupe 20 or 16 v turbo
Saab 900 turbo
Honda integra maybe in budget
Fiesta 1.8 diesel turbo. Little rocketship and a sleeper.
OK not very serious but just got one by chance, it goes like the clappers and cost peanuts.

Does it need to be sporty like a 106 rallye? Or would a bigger motorway cruiser do the job.? My parents had a vw bora 1.9tdi it was cheap, economical and extremely reliable. But was ugly and not sporty

Clio 172. Will get a mint one with proper history in budget
Ford puma? Again should get a sorted one on budget.
Both can be had for a grand if you don't mind doing the tidying up yourself.
I've really enjoyed my MR2 this year. Not saying its the most sensible choice, but if you see a straight one going at a good price (I paid £750 for mine and it went straight through the MOT) then dont pass it straight up!
I highly reccomend a test drive in an mx5. If i could afford a run about, kit car and another run about, i'd get another, they're brilliant cars
