I'm looking for a very compact starter that spins the same way as the B-series Hondas, that is the opposite to Fords, VX etc.
Anybody got any really bright ideas?
Wire it up the wrong way?
Turn it so it faces the other way. ie mount it in the bellhousing.
Only the Hondas as far as I can remember turn anti-clockwise. Quite a few starters do. Thats 'cos they're mounted from the bell-housing side on some cars FWD cars.

The way a starter motor spins depends on whether its engine side or gearbox side and virtually any manufacturer will have either variety accross their range, so you dont have to look only to honda to find something thats the other way to what you have. I'm fairly sure wiring one up the wrong way could be problematic - they use the chassis/case as earth and even if you succeded getting one to spin backwards i think youd have problems with the solenoid/pinion not engaging and/or disengaging corectly. Damn it takes ages to type on one of these phone thingies.
Some older Simca (1000, 1100, Chrysler Alpine and Horizin) engines turn in the wrong direction
Evo 1-3's turn the wrong way
Cheers all - it's for an electric reverse mounted at the sprocket adaptor end.
Triumph Acclaim, but that was basicaly a rebadged Honda.
VAG starters run the "wrong way" check my archive and do a search for electric reverse. Been covered many times.
