Have been going mad searching and researching on the net at a range of cars.
Essentially i'm looking for something genuinely quick and am not totally in need of it being practical. (we have a people carrier for moving the
kids around)
still trying ti make my mind up what to do.
Civic type R (pre 2007) great performance, semi practical but slightly chavvy image
Honda s2000 same engine (i think) as type r Classier reputation, for a 2 seater apparently easier to live with than....
Vauxhall vx220 - good performance, not terrible economy, not the easiest thing to get in and out of, could i live with it every day?
Same for Elise.
Impreza (wife doesnt like em)
Renault sport megane - built in seperate factory to other renaults, quality better than std cars, good performance, and four doors too
Leon Cupra - good type r alternative but i dont love them for some reason.
Mazda rx8 - i like them, and love the idea of a rotary but they do scare me a bit and they arent really sure what they are, sports car four door
etc
other things i've considered include the mustang engined rover 75 and MG's just to hear that lovely engine.
Have i missed anything out?
Paul
Forget the V8 engined 75/ZT it wasn't any better than the ZT 190 to drive -- it just guzzled fuel.
golf gti
350z

Depending on your budget I have noticed that Audi RS6's are getting more reasonble now, not the most economical but probably not much worse than
the others you have listed. They seems to start around the £10k mark but I wouldnt have thought they would loose to much more money, but I have been
known to be wrong
We have a guy come into work every now andthen who has one and when he leaves he always gives it the full beans and the sound
makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Just my 2p's worth
Also E46 M3's arent as much as they used to be too!
Old shape civic type r (EP3) gets my vote. As standard they're fairly quick. Very easy to modify. A quaife diff makes an enormous difference.
If you get used to the speed, stick a jackson supercharger on (plus various other bits) and you've got a completely different beast!
Ragged the crap out of mine for several years (and my mate did the same to it before), and never had any trouble.
It's not the fastest, but it's by far the most fun car I've ever driven. Mine was modified, so was a little more noisey, and revved to
8600rpm (at which point it sounded furious!). I really regret selling it, but had to to buy a volvo to commute and a kit car for weekends whenever I
get it finished!
Impreza sti is a lot more impressive to drive - very quick, awesome grip and handling, but not got the same 'mental' factor.
S2000 has a different engine. It's more powerful, and apparently they are a lot of fun too, but I've never driven one.
I take it an atom is off the cards
BMW Z4
z3m coupe
Very much depends on your budget though. Id love an RS4/6.

XK8 XKR simples
Renault R26.
XK8 XKR simples
+1
Just an XK8 would do me
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo??
Civic type r felt numb to me, maybe look at Clio 182 or later 197 which were built j. Dame factory as the renaultsport megane which is a great car,
but not as checkable as the Clio.
S2000 had different engine to civic with more power. Very sensitive to geometry and redicilous money to insure.
Vx220/Elise are great cars but I struggle to get in snd out. Not an every day car for me.
Leon is dull
Rx8 is great but I'd want an rx7.
Considered an integra type r? Dc2 is Probably best fwd car ever made.
I'm still enjoying my A5 3.0 TDI.
Might not be the most dynamic drive but its fast (0-60 in 5.9 secs / limited to 155 mph) and I still get 43 mpg.
I love the styling as well
I think all my tin tops might be v6 diesels for a while.
Octavia VRS, or what ever the top sporty one is called. Not to everyones taste but for me the best looking 5 door on the golf platform (Less in the
way of boy racer or chav image). I wanted an MG ZT but all of them are ridiculus to tax.
XK would be great but what about an x-type? one of my co workers has one and has only good things to say about it, and the 3l v6 sounds great.
350z gt
Persuade the missus round the the Impreza. We persuaded my mum into a '06 STi Spec-D and now she won't be seperated from it.
Renault Clio 172 Cup, amazing performance for peanuts. On a few trackdays Id managed to rival Boxter S's and M3 E46s.
Budget ?

Budget.... If the wife isn't reading this 8-9 k if she is 5k tops off a mate!:-)
I'm limted to autos so I've never checked any others. I love the way the 75 looked and loved the idea of a sports version.
Monaro, VXR8 (I think it's a Vectra)
Mondeo ST?

thanks for all the replies.
hopefully if the doc says i can drive again today i need to start doing test drives in the new shortlist (which now is about as long as it was when i
started thanks to this thread!!)
350z, s2000, Civic type r, renault sport megane, clio cup 172, vx220, elise, and rx8, though there is a lovely rx7 on autotrader at the minute i worry
its just a bit old for general use.
a fun couple of months i reckon!
