Sticky stuff to fix mudguards on?
richardh - 3/1/12 at 08:28 AM

Hi,
having had a front cycle wing brake free once before, i was told of some black sticky stuff in a tube that sticks like whotsit.

Trouble is i've forgotten what this stuff is called.

Anyone out there know what i mean?

Thanks.

Tiger seal & Sikaflex are a form of polyurethane adhesive which has cyanoacrylate (superglue) in it.
I spread the load on the wing by using perforated steel with studs welded to it, these are pushed on to a bed of sikaflex then further covers the steel mesh.
When set covered the lot in Wunderseal (stone chip) to protect the underside of the fibre glass wing

Don't want to hijack this thread but would any / all of the above stick expanded grille mesh to fibreglass bonnet and nosecone?

Again sorry for hijack.

Yes it would mate. That's how my bonnet vent mesh is secured.

Happy new year by the way!

Mine is held on with a few blobs of clear silicon sealant.

Another good one , and cheaper than Siko, is Evo's "Sticks like S**t". I used this, but also added a couple of layers of GRP over the bracket, once the "SLS" had set hard. HTH Ray

Thanks good people.

Happy New Year Dan BTW

I stuck mine on with sikaflex.

However, now I've gone through my coming of age and broken one through flexing, I wish I'd bolted it! Would make it a damn site easier to attach to it's replacement support!
Re-welding snapped supports would be easier too as no risk of melting the GRP!

Cheers,
James

sikaflex sticks every thing to everything, my bonnet scoop to smooth bonnet, my grill to nose cone, some dollops to stop rattles in dash, wing mirrors.

I hope its good stuff or my car with fall apart lol

...But dont do what some idiot done and cut a hole in my petrol tank and patch it with ally and sikaflex. i never found out they used sikaflex until i was covered in petrol Duffing Dwat. Im not even sure why they cut a hole in my tank.
