Tracks / Airfields etc near Derby/Notts area??
joemotion - 16/1/12 at 06:11 PM

Looking into doing a few track days this year in the Tiger and wondered apart from Donington what other circuits are located around the Derby or Nottingham area?

Im aware of Donington, Blyton and Oulton however the latter two are still an hour and a half away from Derby and Donington isnt cheap from what ive seen. Would be nice to have a cheap localish track to pop to now and again in between venturing further afield.

Blyton's well worth the trip (better than any other airfield that I know of due to its new surface), and usually good value too

It looks like they may have stoped at Cottasmore and gone to Wittering just up the A1

You could try it at PPCITP - http://www.ppc-mag.co.uk/ppc-in-the-park.html for a trackday with a difference

Why has nobody mentioned Cadwell yet?

joemotion - 16/1/12 at 10:38 PM

Cadwell is a bit too far for a local tootle - isn't there something held in Lichfield now and again as well as Notts? Heard a few people mention places in passing but not sure of details??

I live not a million miles from you, Cadwell is well under 2 hours and worth every minute of the drive, Blyton is just over an hour again well worth a trip considering the prices there, airfields are ok but nothing like the enjoyment a track can offer (imho) if you have not tried Blyton give it a go, you will get a pleasant surprise.

Think litchfield is the Sprint circuit at Curborough. OK for a whiz but not really room to explore properly imho

Looking at it thats closer than blyton - only an hour away from Derby.

Anybody else been on a track day here?

ReMan - 18/1/12 at 07:33 AM

3 I think!
I live round the corner!
What do you want to know?

joemotion - 18/1/12 at 07:44 AM

You have probably answered it if you have been 3 times

I'm hearing good things about Blyton and Mallory looks a good possibility - looking on trackdays.com or similar they are both looking around the £120/day for weekends which seems ok.

Wanting to keep it reasonably close to Derby to start as i dont know how the car will perform on track i.e reliability etc and gotta get her home without a trailer. Will make sure my breakdown cover is up to date as well!

Thanks guys

I've done both and would strongly recommend Blyton if it's your first with the car. It's a lovely smooth surface with a good variety of corners and most importantly loads and loads of run off. In most cases if you get it wrong then all you do is end up on the original airfield surface. There's only about one place you can hit a barrier and you'd have to be pretty daft or extremely unlucky to do so. Mallory's great but Gerrards can be a bit daunting for a new comer and can get very messy if you lose it on the way out at 100mph+ !!

My First ever trackday was at Mallory in my Westfield. Loved every minute of it! I found it very easy to learn the circuit, but Gerrards is a fast bend, did'nt realise how well my Westfield gripped until I'd done Gerrards!
