Avensis Airbag light flashing

Ok I thought I pick the brains of the smartest so here goes (and usually the quickest), 03/2000 reg Toyota Avensis, the Airbag lamp is flashing 4 - 8 - 4, so I presume that the flash four is just the pre-emt and code finish, that would make the Flash 8 the code. So what ther heck does it relate to.


Your answers would be appreciated.

What's causing you to worry about it now, after it's been doing it for over 2 years?

Always disconnect the battery and wait 20 minutes before playing around with air bag connectors.

The most likely cause is the connectors under the seats for the air thorax bags and/or the seat occupancy sensor. disconnect and clean with contact cleaner then apply silicone grease.


If the light dosen't go out after that get the codes read but it will need a scanner that reads more than the minimum OBDii CODES.

MOT is coming up and I believe they are now subject to checkable items. BIMBW. (but i may be wrong)

Anyway, just incase some one is interested in the answer, According to Toyota diagnostic (£57) its the ECU it's self, apparently its a few electrons short of a full load, gone to play with the fairy's, crossed the line between sanity and insanity with a pole-vault, otherwise generally known as b*gg#r#d. (£400ish).

Ho-Humm.

Being done on Tuesday. IF they are wrong then its down to them.

As my last post i have / HAD problems with my airbag light so i pick up my new car tomorrow That has cured the problem
