renault megane spares?

Morning all,


Well here's the brief. Wifes car went into local garage for puncture repair. Ok they did that and replaced a wiper blade, all reasonable.

Last years mot had an advisory which garage said they still needed to do. The car is a Renault Magane 2004 1.9tdi with a big arse (the car, not the wife )

They have told her it needs n/s and o/s lower arms ( I assume wishbones) and a N/S track rod end. And they kindly quoted for the labour and parts.

Where is the best place to buy these bits as after seeing the quote am going to do it myself and save several hundred pounds.

Dont want to just buy e-bay parts if there is another option I may have missed. Are GSF any good?? never used them. Any other ideas or just stick to the bay.

The trouble with mail order is you can't what manufacturer the parts are before you get them. Also be aware the Megane suspension changed completely in 2003 .

Don't accept anything but Lemforder or QH or Renault QEM parts. I have had bad experiences with Delphi aftermarket suspenension parts wearing out in less than a year.

Local motor factors should have them or Euro Car Parts local or on internet http://www.eurocarparts.com

You will also need a ball joint splitter for the track rod end --- if you buy the type that is hammered in look for one with a long shank.

If you want them to fit first time buy direct from Renault and trust me when I say it takes a lot for me to say anything that lines te pockets if Renault parts and service departments!

You have to take the front part of the subframe off to change the bottom wishbones and replace the balljoint clamp nut and bolt plus do the tracking afterwards.

You may?? have to remove the front bumper to get at the front subframe which is connected to the main subframe just to be able to remove the front inner wishbone bolt. It's easy to replace just the bottom ball joint without removing the wishbone. Unless the wishbone is damaged or the inner bushes are shot there is no need to change the wishbone IMHO

I've done several lower ball joints but have never had to change a wishbone which I suspect would be a bitch of a job. Probably best to get a second opinium on your car??

May be able to but it wouldn't be for a couple of weeks
