Off road 4X4 shock recommendations?
MikeCapon - 20/2/12 at 06:41 PM

I know quite a few of you are into Landies and other 4X4s so here we go.

A pal of mine with a Jeep Wrangler has asked me to find him a set of good quality shocks. Now 4X4 stuff is something I am not at all familiar with and there seem to be heaps of different makes costing from next to nothing up to eye watering level.

I'm OK with stuff from the states if needs be or if there are some good European manufacturers that would be fine too. So what's good and what's to avoid?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I'm guessing this is lifted. He has given me open lengths of 740mm Which seems huuuuge to me... And 180mm of stroke.

Old man Emu or Rancho shocks both good. Had a set of rough country shocks on wrangler with a 4 inch lift not recommended and were replaced with Rancho's

If he is serious then Fox very expensive, very good

I've got Terrafirma fitted to mine.
I like them
I used to use Procomp shocks but the chroming
on their rods is rubbish now - they rust far too easily.

Thank you all for your replies. Much appreciated.

Mike, got Old Man Emu on mine. Not cheap but they are the best I've used.

Cheers, Nick

Hi

As you can imagine i get 3-4 calls a week from people looking for Procomp 4x4 dampers Etc. Virtually all those calls are from people with issues regarding them leaking.
I had FOX on my old Comp safari Niva Never a problem with them.

Cheers Matt

Sorry Matt

I should have clarified with my comment about Procomp shocks
that they're nothing to do with the gear you supply.
