the car has gone now so what next?
daniel mason - 19/7/12 at 05:22 PM

unfortunately i bit of more than i could chew in building the mnr and sadly have had to let it go to a really nice guy in the south of france. i have always wanted to build my own car and am dissapointed that a failed to get the car road legal. id like to thank everyone on here who has helped me during the build and one again im dissapointed at myself and the budget i had originally set, (which was way way out)
i still like tinkering in the garage and am now in the market for another 7, and as i got a decent price for the kit, some of which i will save.i have a budget of £10k for a new 7.
any ideas on what to go for? must be car engined. cheers

If you fancy another MNR there is a mx5 turbo vortx on ebay for less than 10k.

If not for that budget you could get a nice westfield or a slightly older caterham. Both these would retain value very well too.

Why not do something completely different?

Ideal opportunity to get that PPL(M) microlight licence. It's locost flying, very addictive.

Hi Dan,
Why not a TR 7 ???
Cheap to buy a good un, the rusty ones have mostly dissolved now, a British product!! fun to drive, running gear not out of the ark with some built incrash protecyion and a half sensible design if you like the wedge shape. All parts are available and you can upgrade to your heart';s content
We have done a couple of thousand miles in ours and it hasn't thrown up any major issues and it is all spanner and screwdriver stuff to sort - you can fit one of those new fangled elecrtronic ignition systens if you don't enjoy farting about with an upside down distributor.
Worth a punt imho failing that I can flog you our faithful old Jago

Not a 7, but I do like this, I had a drive of it around cadwell, they are very quick

Road Runner SR1 MK Sprint R (not Westfield Indy) road registered R1 track car | eBay

Just to add, its not car engined either, so does not tick any boxes for you, but I like it

I'm with Daniel after letting my MNR go..... I'm going down the route of a midi and at the moment a Riot is in the lead...

I really liked the one in the hall at Stoneliegh and have had a look at a MK Midi but the Riot SE is what I'm thinking of next..

Why? People can say what they want about Caterhams, but it's what most people who build a replica would aspire to own anyway. They are expensive though.

I was looking at getting a Caterham after selling my Indy and dabbling with bikes for a bit. A couple of weeks ago I got a really good condition Westfield that's got everything I want exceot the engine, which is a CVH (still not slow by any means, and allows some scope for tinkering in the future).

After wrestling around a kit build for a long time, the idea of building again just did not appeal. Buying a very good condition, fully working, road registered and hillclimb prepared Westy has been the best thing I've done - just need to get out and drive it (when the rain isn't falling!).

If a Caterham is what you want, then I would say go and find one that fits the bill. If you buiy anything else, you'll enjoy it but always be left with the thought that it's just not the Caterham you want. I'll keep the Westy for a few years and then sell it when I can afford a Superlight R.

£10K is not exactly Locost. Just wish I had half of that for a project/toy.
