Sending an engine to Dublin from Carlisle

Hi I was wondering if anyone has any experience of sending stuff to Ireland recently as it seems post Brexit it’s a bit of a minefield I’m trying to help a Bloke out whose engine has gone bang, I have tried various van and man outfits who seem to think £300 - £400 + is reasonable and that’s without any duties due
Pallet companies are cheaper - it would go as a quarter pallet but they are asking for Eori statements/ certificates. We are just 2 private individuals. Currently it looks like his £100 engine will cost £400 + tax to just get it into his yard
Has anyone found a way through this?

Shipping from the UK into the EU has become a proper PITA since BREXIT.

EORI number = Economic Operators Registration and Identification number

Mr taxman and the couriers need it so the duties and taxes can be applied to the shipments.

Not sure how you get around it if you're a private individual selling to a private individual.

Maybe worth speaking to the carrier/freight people to explain and ask the best solution?

At work orders of less than £250 goods value often cost more hassle and money to ship than there is profit to be made.

Thanks I messaged local rep of pallet company and he mentioned the EORI number and also the post Brexit problem of increased and changing regulations. On gov uk it says that EORI numbers are not required for personal consignments but not sure if that’s ok with the courier. The bloke I’m dealing with said people are reluctant to send stuff there. He reckons if he can’t get a suitable engine his car is scrap and I’ve got 3 sitting here doing nothing!

You could get a ferry from Cairnrynan in SW Scotland to either Larne or Belfast in Northern Ireland and drive down.

Hi thanks for replying. I have had quite a few trips to all parts of Ireland using that route but have nothing planned at the moment.
I have a pallet quote around £220 but might need EORI number. Currently looking at getting it sent to bloke’s relatives who live in the north. There’s no panic or ru so just looking at best way of getting it there

That sounds like a good plan.

There are a number of motorsport folk (rallying, sprints/hillclimbs and oval racing) who travel across the Irish sea regularly who might have some helpful advice.

Are these Crossflow engines?

Hi it’s triumph design not much bigger than a x flow but has fly wheel on the back to add a bit of weight!
It would be great to find someone heading that way.
