Revcounter Question?
Hi, Possably a stupid question but anybody know if its possable to run a revcounter in the same way as a speedo, "ie" with magnets on the
crank or flywheel, and if so what would you need. Reason for asking I want to run a petrol revcounter on a diesel engine. Cheers Ray
Edit to add, can't use the alternator as it hasn't the tappings.

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

Doubt if just any rev counter would work that way but have you thought about using a diesel rev counter ? IIRC the old Nissan Bluebird diesel used a
sensor picking up from a 4? legged disc behind the crank sprocket, Peugeot and Citroens work by picking up off of the flywheel

Try googling tachometer generator, and see if it gives you any leads, the 3.8 E Type and other jags used such a device on the end of the inlet cam.
