changing type specification
Looking for a VW transporter to convert to a campervan, how complex if at all is it to change the type ie 3 seater van to a 5 seater camper ?
Is it a nightmare or would I be best to look for one registered as a 5 seater ?

Not sure about the current reg's, but it used to be that if you fitted windows to a van body then you had to pay the tax on it, (VAT, as is
now). HTH Ray
To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

I imagine you just send that off to dvla, although wouldn't 5 sleeping in a VW be a bit cramped?
It's possible you might need to get the seatbelts and such checked out, or they might be good for next MOT...

reason for going for a 5 seater is that the rear bed conversion also doubles as a seat so can carry 5 people

thought the window thing was the other way round, ie no windows its a commercial vehicle so pay vat stick some windows in it its not a van no vat? I
used to know a landrover dealer who would put windows in the back of 110 truck tops for this reason

If it's a van and you buy it for business purposes you can claim the VAT back. If you put window in you change the purpose and it sells at a
higher tax rate so no gain. There are websites dedicated to this, have a look round here for some
inspiration or google to find the details.
Here's a thread on registering.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I am pretty sure a type 3 would be too old to require rear seat belts ?
