I remember a few years ago, when Stirling Moss was interviewed, and was asked about safety etc in the pre seatbelt racing era. He said the fact that
you could be killed was what made it so exciting, and that drivers prefered not to have seatebelts on "as more often that not you were
thrownclear of the car" and risk of fire, or the car rolling on you.
They certainly were a different breed.
