Red letter days Atom thrill - one to give a miss
My in-laws clubbed together to buy me a Red Letter Day Atom Thrill for my birthday, which was very thoughtful of them. Mallory Park is my favourite
circuit too. Now I knew that it was only 6 laps but I was still a bit disappointed. The day was set up not just for absolute novices but for
absolute idiot novices. The instructor, who was in the passenger seat dictated what you could and could not do at all times.
They had put cones out at braking and turning in points and insisted that you braked all the way between them. But they were so far apart that you
could have safely come to a complete rest and then got back up to race speed between them. Corners were then turned into at about 20 MPH in 3rd gear
(as dictated) labouring the engine until revs hit 3 figures.
They even had braking points for Devil's Elbow, which for those who don't know Mallory is normally flat out. In the kit car I could get
up to 80 from the hairpin and turning in at full throttle hit 100 before the exit. Not today.
On the last lap I asked (!) if I could have 2nd for the hairpin. So I did get a sense of how fast the supercharged atom is. (It felt just like the
BEC actually). Sadly they had the traction control set on "learner driver" so the thing was always cutting out. I thought it was a bad
misfire until the instructor explained.
So by all means send your mum on one, but I'd avoid for anyone who is a keen driver.

Shame you had a bad time of it.
On the plus side I've had a day out with http://www.dynamic-drivers.co.uk/ near Weston Super Mare and had a whale of a time - not masses of time
in the cars but they seemed pretty much committed to writing all of the cars off every time they went out. "DONT BRAKE YET YOU WUSS, WAIT UNTIL
I PUT MY HAND UP THEN STAMP ON THEM AS HARD AS YOU CAN - YOU'LL NEED IT!"

I had a driving experience a couple of years ago at Rockingham in a Ferrari 360 and like above the instructor was shouting come on and turning my head
for me. We were overtaking everyone and coming out of a bend at 100+ mph and he even gave me an extra lap. Said he couldn't understand anyone
coming down and just tootling around.
It was only about 4 laps I think but was really enjoyable.
Pity yours was disappointing.

i can highly recommend westfield experience day. I had a great time and the instructors were pushing us really hard and really wanted us to get
quicker.
good seat time too about 50 mins.

ive done the gallardo day and the atom, and ive got to agree with smart51. In the lambo they were happy for me to flog it round, but in the atom they
insisted on not accelerating til it was totally straight, and the same dumb braking points. Total waste of money really.

I had a similar experience with a ferrari day, insisting you brake very early. Was just about getting away with a touch more speed and the handful of
laps were over. I did only pay about 30quid in the end though...

Strange! No mention in that article that Peter Jones and Theo Pathitis (Dragons Den) are heavily involved in the business.
