Particulate Filter Problem
Come on guys see if you can answer this one.
My daily hack is a vauxhall signum elite (vectra underneath) 1.9cdti. it has been playing up for a while now but not enough for me to warrant
spending any amount of time investigating it.
about a month ago it started bunny hopping and messing about, initial suspect was the egr valve according to the ecu reader i have. so i unplugged it
and the car run silky smooth again. simple fix i thought. of to vauxhall i went and got a new so called improved design egr. fitted it no
different.
so i had a deeper look into the problem and turned out that it could possibly be a blocked particulate filter. so i hooked up the diagnostic dongle
and forced it to regen which made the car idle at 3500 rpm for 30mins getting the particulate filter up to 600deg c for about a week after doing
that the car behaved pretty well but still had the odd hickup now and then and went into limp mode.
so i thought lets try it with the egr valve disconnected again. hey presto it run perfectly all be it the power delivery felt a little less than
normal but no messing about.
then last weekend towing the trailer down to exeter with the exocet on the back put a little more load on the motor and it would go into limp mode on
any kind of hill if i wasnt in a lowish gear.
i plugged my dongle in when i got home and it was flagging particulate filter and as expected egr (as it had been disconnected)
i have had all the sensors out of the inlet and cleaned them up, blown out all the little rubber pipes with an air line and its made no difference.
so do i take the exhaust off and bash out the guts of the particulate filter and hope it fixes the problem or are there other things i can try before
going to such an extreem.
i hear that if it has no particulate filter in the exhaust and it tries to regen it will kick tones of black smoke out the back of the car. firstly
does anyone know if this is true and secondly does anyone know of someone or is anyone able to disable the regen on the ecu and maybe even the egr so
i can blank it off?
sorry for the long post but a bit of history sometimes helps.

i know theres no fault codes relating but have you checked the flaps on the inlet? theyre prone for getting gunked up and causing issues

Forte do an additive for cleaning DPFs Ithink you remove it from the car and pour in the additive which breaks down the carbon then flush it out with
a hosepipe, may be fuel system cleaner? Vauxhall can also clean them but at what cost?? I'm sure I've seen companies that can do a mobile
cleaning service ?
