Cleaning oil off carpet.
My new second hand tintop has a large boot carpet, backed with felt, which I found has had a spill of transmission oil in the past. Despite soaking
with fairy liquid, hosing down daily for the last week it is still oily to the touch. Before it goes to the tip can anyone suggest ways of cleaning
it?

Jizer or Gunk brushed in and left for 15 minutes or so, followed by hosing off should remove it.

Discovered lighter fluid, stuff used in old fashioned lighters, is the best for removing oil or grease from almost anything including carpet. Even
says can be used for this on the tin.
So next time you or the kids walk a lump of tar or grease across your best shag pile give it a go.

Swarfega and a nailbrush works for me, then something like washing up liquid to take the smell of the Swarfega off.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Safe yourself the hassle and bin it!
You'll pick up a SH one cheap enough.

Tried gunk. Lots of oil came out but still oily and stinking. I think there may be a whole litre of 90EP in this carpet.

Bio washing powder is pretty evil stuff. Use with hot (not boiling) water quite concentrated.
I have used a jetwash on a rug in the past, shifted a lot of the stuff it was embedded with. Maybe worth a try?
