Pug 205 Mi16 Gear linkage
Has a sloppy sloppy feel to it, before I get busy and dig in to see what the issue is, anyone have any pearls of wisdom?

I remember an episode of wheeler dealers, they had it, it was the linkage, cheap fix.

The standard linkages are made of small Ø (read bendy) rod with cheap and cheerful (read sloppy) ball joints. There certainly used to be kits
available with better rods and ball joints, some including quick shift adapters. It's also worth checking and replacing if necessary the actual
pivot on the gear lever which can wear and hamper clean shifting. The BE1 (and variants) g/box actually shifts pretty well when the linkages are all
working well.

One other thing to check Liam is the rear engine mount. The standard one is relatively soft anyway, and gets worse with age/mileage. The standard
one looks like this...
...and can often break allowing the engine and g/box free to rock back adding to strain on the linkages.
It's best replaced with a solid type like this (Grp A IIRC)....
