tin top head unit advice

I have just picked up my new'ish daily drive, Audi A4 2.0t fsi Avant Quattro. And would like to connect my phone or a n MP3 player to the standard head unit. Does anyone on here now the best way to achieve this. It would need to have an USB and a 3.5mm jack input for what I need.

Thanks
Brad.

How about the DAB radio unit from Pure. I think it has all the connections you want, plus DAB radio as well.

Bit pricey, I could get a decent replacement headunit for that money.
Thanks all the same.

My mondeo has the headphone plug in the glovebox, maybe you have something like that in an odd place like that?

Depending on the age of the vehicle, its going to be a right pain to connect anything to the car thats not already there....

VAGCOM etc is a ball ache. Some also have amps for the speakers which match the headunit etc

Depending on the age of the Audi, there may well be an option for a headphone or USB socket. Even if it's not fitted at the moment, there may be a connector round the back that allows it.

Do a search online for the features of the head unit to see if it's possible, or on one of the many car audio leads websites to see if they sell a suitable headphone or USB lead.

Failing that, I'd probably recommend an FM transmitter device, there are a few that keep 'most' of the signal quality and just sit in the ciggy socket.

I'm wanting to do the same in my Passat. There was an optional media interface thing offered from new which puts a 3.5mm and/or USB socket in the centre console storage bin. This is simply blanked off on mine and I'm hoping/guessing the wiring/intelligence is there anyway it's just a case of getting the right bits to bring it to the outside world.

By way of example, on my old Mk1 Leon the main dealer was able to retro fit cruise control by simply changing the stalk and fiddling with the software.

Failing that, Parrot do a nifty little unit which hooks up phones and audio devices via USB and Bluetooth - ~£140 (unfitted) IIRC. It has a colour screen too so you can see who's calling and album artwork etc.
