MPV's

My Renault Master van is getting old now and as I am now retired from building I am thinking of replacing it with an MPV. I have only £2k to £3k to spend,
what in your experience is the best ones out there.

When our twins (making 3 kids all in) arrived we got a Seat Alhamdra 1.9TDI. Did us good for a few years and all 5 rear seats can be removed leaving you with pretty much a van.

Reliable and pretty economical to run. It took some finding though as most have served long hard family or taxi lives.

If your not worried about the badge or looks then the Citroen Xsara Picasso is very versatile. Small on the out side but the size of a skip inside with the seats just un clipping. We have owned Petrol and diesel versions. I used it for everything from towing the kitcar to taking my mum shopping every week with a mobility scooter and a wheel chair. My personal favourite was the 1.6 petrol manual. Only faults where niggly little electrical faults.

We had a Citroen C8 for a few years (same as Peugeot / Fiat models). Lots of space and drove much nicer than the Alhambras and Galaxy's I tried at the time. Huge inside and very comfortable with decent handling.

You had to drive it hard to go at a reasonable speed and so never got more than 30 MPG.

Never had an trouble with it but heard that seized injectors can be an issue.

What's the road tax on them.

Family friend had one (without thinking to check things like that first) and forever moaned about the high road tax on it.
