Bonnet bumper rubber

I have a car that is knocking on 30 years old now and the bonnet hinges are getting a bit of play. They're pressed items and not adjustable, and now while the bonnet is latched I get constant scratchy jiggly rattles as it goes over bumps and the body flexes. It's driving me nuts.

In an effort to diagnose it, I trapped some neoprene under the hinge area to just preload the hinge a little upwards and this silenced the nuisance.

Is anyone aware of a location to buy firm rubber strip that is bond-on, or adjustable height bumpers that I can cut and bond? The neoprene compressed and the rattle returned after a week.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, problem is they are all a bit soft, the neoprene I used was an old kneeling pad 10mm thick and that rapidly compressed and stayed compressed.

I see a bunch of screw-in rubber stops but I dont have any screw threaded holes and I'm not planning to drill any but im sure there must be bond on options my Google foo is failing me for.

Any chance of replacing the actual hinges to overcome the wear?

I think you’ll find most foams will take on a set quite quickly, try a solid but low shore solid rubber if you can.

Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just

I couldn't find anything the right shape/firmness so I'm going to go with the rubbers off a similar vehicle and cut and bond them.

I just checked, yes they do, you can even buy stuff as a guest, without registering

I think for Farnell, you use cpc as a private customer.

ps, I noticed the item I linked to is on back order.

Ah nice. I moved to NL a couple of years ago and they won't sell to private folk in europe, but while I'm back in the UK I will order from there. Thanks for the heads up!
