Volvo v70 XC - high mileage petrols any good?

Currently have a TD5 7 seater disco, but it sits on the drive a lot and thinking of getting something a bit cheaper (release some funds for house move). Its gotta be a 7 seater (rear seats only used by kids), and I'm not interested in a people carrier, 4 wheel drive and be big enough to take a small country on hoiday. MPG isn't so important as it won't do a massive amount (8k a year), although cheaper the better and I doubt anything could be much worse than the disco anyway.

The volvo v70 AWD or XC seems to fit the bill, anyone got knowledge, expirience of these after they have done 100k miles

The Volvos still commard really good money.Which I suppose reflects how good they are.I know of problems with the 4wd system not working if it isn't used enough.I "THINK" that it can be put in and out to keep it in play.Just have a look on Autotrader and flebay. Quite high prices.I've been lurking looking for a cheap AWD D5.They don't exist

..Which was nice..

High miles 2001-2002 2.4 petrols are coming in at 3k+, its a lot of car for the wedge!

Just trying to find out when the vicous unit was replaced by the haldex unit, conflicting reports.

aswell as the haldex unit , by far the worse thing to go wrong is the bevel gear , which leak slowly and run out of oil .

once theyre broke its game over . a new box or bevel gear can be high secondhand values to over £2k from the dealer .

do u need 4wd ? the haldex system only really works when the fronts are spinning relative to the rear , you can get xc with only 2wd .
