Car body repair near Glasgow
I am hoping that someone can advise on where to get some rust on a rear wing of my Rover 75 repaired.
I have a 2002 Rover 75 diesel estate in good condition except that in it's history, it has had a poor accident repair to the rear wing. This is
now beginning to rust. I think the whole wing should be replaced. the two places that I have talked to quoted about £600 to repair with filler. I like
the car and expect to keep it for a long time, so I would like a good repair
The questions:
Should I expect a replacement metal repair (not just filler)?
Who will do a good job at a reasonable price ?
How much can I expect it to cost.
I understand that it won't be cheap and I want suitable rustproofing.
I would prefer to take it somewhere sort of near Glasgow but I guess that I could take it some distance if need be
Any advice / recommendations would be welcome
Jon

I have used Probodyshop a couple of times now and Ive found them to be spot on. They are in Cambuslang.
They dont charge the earth, I had both front wings, front bumper, bonnet and roof done on my last car and he only charged me £500. I did have a tiny
pin bubble of rust appear on one of the front wings around 9 months later and he took the car back in and repainted it, no argueing no fuss. Overall
finish was spot on.
A good bodyshop should advise whether a filler repair or metal replacement is neccessary but I certainly wouldnt want to pay £600 for a filler repair.

First the bad news you may find it hard to believe but the replacement panel for this model consists of the whole side of the car from the front
windscreen pillar backwards the original cost of the part from X-part was at least twice the value of your car. The repair would normally
be done by cutting a replacement part out of the new panel and making a splice MIG or TIG weld on the the original wing.
The very very good news is these days bit of the panel you need it can be found much cheaper do a search on ebay

A few 75 & ZT Tourers are starting to show up with some corrosion on the rear wings -- it is not so obvious on saloon models yet, I
suspect the causes is condensation due to the lack of proper ventilation. Also I would advise checking under the passenger compartment carpets
for trapped water, I have seen a few cars with water trapped by the water proof underside of the carpet.
As for rust proofing I would recommend you do it yourself as it is the only way to be sure it is done effectively.
