I take your point but, to put things into perspective, I went to a meeting at RAF Cosford last year and about 10 GTR's from the owners club
turned up. I got talking to one guy who'd just upgraded his car with a 750bhp package and fitted and Akrapovic exhaust (about £20K total). His
justification was that he'd just had a good bonus from work and thought he'd spend half of it on his car! I could've cried.
We're not all minted, I certainly couldn't afford to use it every day and wouldn't, as it could take the edge off the fun. I also
want to keep my licence a bit longer as well.

Yeah, I get that too (although hands up who's had a bonus in the past couple of years???....unless you move pretend money about for a living
obviously!) but I think the original post was about whether to buy a 2nd hand Passat/Golf/Fabia/Mondeo AND a kit car OR spend the same money on
something like a Scuby or an Evo - not taking out a mortgage to buy a GTR

I work in the construction industry and have a job - and as Gazza says that's the only bonus I/we get! - a 40K bonus ......I get about 2/3 of
that in wages in a year and I have 2 teenagers and a todler to feed etc etc out of that...... holidays are a struggle, fun cars are a struggle -
Nissan GTRs...... lol

Alot of posts.
Yes the original Idea was about much more boring cars than GTR's, and was more do you get an Evo/3 series or spend the money on a Mondeo and a
kit.
Driving anything to work everyday does make it boring quite quickly, since I've started walking to work (I moved house and it's quicker to
walk) I find the car slightly more intresting than I did a few months ago, though 3 years is still too long to own a normal car me thinks.

We are a 3 car family. My wife has a MkV GTI Golf which is everyday practical and with the DSG box is also sporty and fun. I run a beat up 94 Trooper
Bighorn which would pull a ship and has been fantastic over the last three winters. I also have the Indy as my fun car.
We are actually in the market to change the cars now (already looking). The Golf is due for replacement and our thought process is Replace the Trooper
with a 2nd hand Volvo XC90 (Practical, modern and better fuel economy then the Trooper as its a modern 2.4 TD vs an old 3.1 TD) and then replace the
Golf with an MX-5 MkIII Roadster (again 2nd hand maybe an 08/09 plate). The Indy is not being factored in to this car change around.
Monthly outgoings are less overall and we have Fun, Practical, All Round family coverage.

Well we,ve got 4 cars at the moment. I drive an Audi s2 avant as a daily and have a tiger cat e1. The wife has a Ford galaxy and an Audi 80 cabby. The
s2 is a quick car but nowhere near the fun of the tiger. You need an estate to lug things about with and a 2 seater to get away from it all in too.
Well, you do when you've a wife and 3 kids anyway.

Yeah sorry you are right, the updated version, with a different driver by the looks of it, 0.1s quicker than the r500 was run.
Same stig in both when it was originally run made the r500 2 secs quicker.

To be honest I'd rather have something luxurious to drive to work.. Some great big Beemer or Merc, maybe a top of the range A8, and then have a
kit/MR2/etc for fun

Anyone tried using their Locost as an everyday car for a while ? Not many references to this on the forum but I cant see any reason why someone
couldnt do it given weather gear etc.
I used a Cobra replica as my main car for a year once. Bits kept falling off as it was a pooly designed early Pilgrim Sumo but it was just as
practical for everyday use as an MX5 or any other 2 seater car and saved the expense of keeping another car on the road.
