OT: BMW 540 oil filter housing

Hi all,

just trying to service swmbo's 540, and have changed the oil filter, but every time we turn the engine over, it starts leaking from the top of the housing - it's like it's not returning oil to the engine. I've taken the housing off, and one of the unions does seem to be blocked (the old filter came apart when I took it out ) there also seems to be the bottom of the old filter stuck on the bottom of the housing - Any of you know which union is fill and which is return? One's marked R and the other's marked V, but German's not my strong point...

Any hints / tips?

Cheers

Vince

Found it - the old O ring on the housing cover looked just like a part of the cover - they're both black, and the O ring was squashed flat (it was leaking before I serviced it). Levered it off, replaced it with the new one, bolted it all back up, job's a goodun.

Cheers
