I want a Lotus 23 - badly

Saw this whilst dropping off my Cobra engine parts. Took me right back to my car mad school days.

Reminded me of how badly I want one of them - it won't take much to convince me to sell my Cobra and my Locost bits to get a kit.

Dam - wish I wasn't so busy with Consulting - but who knows - that could change any day now.

And yes I know that the original didn't have wheel arch extensions - but then it didn't have modern 20V Blacktop Toyota power either.

I've always liked them. Westfield did a replica if I remember correctly?

Westfield's was a replica Lotus 11 and they have stopped making them...

My Daughter has taken over production of the damn fine Triton race seats and her contact email is emmatrs@live.co.uk.

One of my very favourite cars. I looked into building a replica a while back. The main choices are:

The Auriga http://members.toast.net/joerger/noble/

The Tiger ERA30 (not really a replica - but I love it) http://www.tigerracing.com/era-30.php

Martyni Sportscars http://www.martyni23.freeuk.com/

I couldn't build one for less than £20k so I'll leave it for another day.

Lotus 11 replicas are another option - but I prefer the 23 or 30 and the Westfield version isn't really much good for track days - other than that one in PPC!

I might be able to get the chassis and suspension built to the original plans if the owner consents, and then it's "just" a matter of procuring a body - the moulds exist somewhwere in SA I believe, so a bit of networking should find them.

Hi Ivan

Mate of mine has been in contact with a guy in Natal (SA) who was offering a full body (only) for sale mid last year.

I can ask if it is still available if you want?

Cheers

You can do it quickly. You can do it cheap. You can do it right. – Pick any two.

My all time favorite as well. Xanthos are arguably the truest replica available. As far as I can tell they started out making parts for original cars and eventually ended up with enough stuff to supply the whole thing. A friend of mine has built one with a bike engine which I reckon is exactly what Chapman would have done if he was doing it today
