DIY changing back box on BMW mini

Hi all,

Mother in law has an 05 reg BMW mini one which I've been looking after. The back box has now gone on it, and it would appear that I could save myself about £70 by eBay/DIY route, rather than taking it to the local exhaust centre.

Problem is that I've got no lift/ pit - has anyone attempted something similar with just axel stands, or is it just easier to give it to the pro's ?

Cheers
Tris

Did the one on my Cooper S with just a couple of jacks and an angle grinder and some spanners.

I replaced the whole rear section, cat back, with a new genuine system that I paid less than £50 for from ebay...

If it is typical BMW the OEM back box has a bolt on hanger hook bracket the aftermarket back boxes sometimes ome complete the Hooks welded on ---- but check when you order as the it will be impossible to salvage the old one.

ISTR system will be one piece not unlike the original Mini however it follows later Rover practice in having a 2 bolt flange joint aft of the cat --- get a new gasket and have a couple of suitable M10 stainless steel nuts and bolts handy.
