GP Nuvolari 2011 .... a Classic dream
Not for the first time our holiday in Italy just happened to coincide with this - not that SWMBO was objecting as she's as keen on Classics as I
am (well almost).
This annual event takes place over three days starting and finishing in Nuvolari's home town Mantova.
It the wends its way through the North Italian countryside visiting various towns and circuits on the way.
We normally pick it up Frid PM at Autodromo Ricardo Paletti south of Parma and near the Dallara factory, like many events there public access is
free.
After a timed lap of the circuit they then head out on public roads across the Cisa Pass towards the coast near la Spezia.
The scenery is fantastic and roads worthy of any blat in the UK.
Because its public roads you can follow the competitors and it's amazing how even a Mr Hertz Opel Minerva can keep up with the older classics
such as Ferraris, Astons and Jags.
One of the enduring memories of this year's event will be the soundtrack from open-top, fifties V12 Ferrari which we followed closely for miles
up the Pass. He wasn't all that fast round the corners (!) but gave it loud on the straights as a result of trying to drop us - sheer magic!
See these links for more GP Nuvolari website and reports here
youtube footage
Having spectated on the Mille Miglia as well I'd go to the Nuvolari every time. It's much more spectator friendly though not quite such a
wide range of cars but hey when you're on holiday a fix is a fix.
Oh and the weather wasn't half bad at c.30C for most of last week!
After Ryanair dumped us at Stansted 6 hours late on Monday morning at 0230hrs I've even half a mind to go in the F27 next year.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to earn enough brownie points????
Anyone want further details just let me know.
Cheers, Pewe
