MX5 Handbrake Adjuster Screws

I've managed to damage the splines on one of the handbrake adjuster/piston rewind grub screws on the rear caliper of my Mk1 MX5.

A quick google suggests this is quite a common problem, and that as a quick fix, its possible to pull out the grub screw and remove the damaged splines by cutting a few mm from the end off it.

The screw pulled out with ease, however a fair bit of brake fluid followed it. A google search threw up a post on another forum suggesting that the fluid leaking here was a sign of a knackered caliper. Does anyone know if this is the case?

The bolt I removed to get at the adjuster grub screw had a copper sealing washer on it, so I'm hoping the fluid leaking past the screw is actually normal?

Terrible timing to run into problems, I've got my first ever track day booked for tomorrow morning.
