The MAF is upstream from where the EGR pipe connects to the plenum.
You might want to read a little more on cleaning MAF sensors though, there's a pretty high chance you'll kill it. I'm not sure about this specific one though, hence the reading

The yellow bit is the dipstick To the left of it on the big round pipe that connects to the thing that looks like a hoover brush with four nozzles has a connector held on with a spring clip and that is where the MAF sensor is. Don't mess with it as it is very fragile. EGR will be between the exhaust and inlet manifold somewhere, it is the exhaust gas recirculation system and it gets clogged with carbon. Edit to add if it's either of those it should be showing up on your dash as an engine fault and lighting the check engine (little yellow helicopter) light

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Thanks guys.

I have had it all in bits, not much carbon build up, but very very oily, and a real PITA to clear it up

i have carb cleaned most of it that i can get to, but not taken the manifold off, as it seems to be a rather complex system, that goes over the back of the engine as well

Things would be so much easier, if i had a workshop manuel for this model !!

And the maf was very oily, so left alone, till further advice
