How do I remove waxoyl?
I've just removed the rear suspension arms from my project car and want to paint the rear subframe (insitu) while there's good access as
there are patches of surface rust. The thing is caked in waxoyl which only smears with everything I've tried to remove it. A chisel works but
only for a very thin strip of the round tube. What's the best way to get it off that doesn't involve power tools?

Steam cleaning would work . Many years ago I worked in a main agents and new cars came protected in wax which we steam cleaned off. Have you tried
white spirit for small areas? or possibly a slightly stronger solvent?

Asked Finnegans (waxoyl) this question and they advised either Hot water or white spirits
Its a messy job though
