Spends all that money on a track car and has no built in extinguisher!

Source was very probably a fuel leak on the rear bulkhead, so I doubt if a built-in extinguisher would have helped. (this was discussed at length on
the dutch kitcarclub website). The imprtant thing is that the guy got out OK.
As for the marshals: these guys are there voluntarily freezing their buts off for a cheese sandwich....

Underlines one of the big the dangers of track days & private practice: No Marshalls.
I have always been aware of this since Norrie Gabraith's terrible fatal accident during private filming.

Volunteer or not, that marshal would have had boot polish all over his nads if that had been my car.
He must have thought that extinguisher was to weigh him down to stop him being blown away.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

Watching this did kick me into gear to getting an extinguisher to buy and put one in the boot but what sort is best? A cursory look at eBay and Foam,
Powder and CO2 all say suitable for flammable liquids?

I carry a small bottle in the Locost for speed events even though I dont need to. Its only to get me out and away from the car really though, once its
going up like that i'll be running pretty quick!

That's a good point at the very least you could point and squirt the thing in the general area of the fire

Just as a thought maybe there could be a sticky somewhere with little extra items like this that aren't really required but are a good idea.

Shocking behaviour from the marshals, poor show all round really with no regard for minimising damage at all.

Richard.

+1, unless it was a well marshalled world championship style event I'd bloody well be stopping to help out a fellow driver who's
car's on fire, how poor spirited of all those miserable sods who drove past a plume of smoke.

track days aren't marshalled like a race event though are they? thought there was only 1 marshal with flags and a radio per post? in which case,
he'll be there with his yellow flag radioing for fire marshals. not sure there's a great deal more the marshal could do tbh. if he's
not got the flag out warning the others to slow down and goes to put a fire out, what if one car comes round and ploughs into them? who's faults
that?

The YouTube comment sums it up: what if you were stuck in the burning car and all you had was THAT Marshall
Volunteer or not he's not there to look on, that's what the spectators are there for

as said trackdays have a lot less marshal points than a race, friend of mine had a engine bay fire and made sure he pulled off the track directly
beside a maned marshal position who put it out swiftly, if happened and stopped half way along the straight would been at least a minute before anyone
saw it and came running at least 400yards with a weighty extinguisher.
Another good idea to take note when on a trackday as things can go wrong same as last track day i done at Snetterton last Sunday when one car through
a rod, following car span on oil and head on into armco, one written off clio a sore neck

Foam extinguishers / built in foam systems - crap on car fires. Marshals pretty unimpressive! And not exactly wearing the right kit to deal with fuel
fires!

As there was no life in danger, you cant blame the marshall for not wanting to get a face full of burning fuel - if the tank popped.
I didn't notice the driver rushing to have another go with the marshall's extinguisher.
The fire service was a bit Trumpton.
