According to that very safe, not a recorded incident! Although it is amazing and horrifying at the same time to see of local incidents that have taken
place.

I shall note it doesn't say that the 18 year old bought the car as a wreck for £100 and were apparently doing way over the speed limit when the
found out half the brakes didn't work... [cynical] Speed cameras would have worked well then [/cynical]

Seen that the other day. Bad to see so many fatalities, usually they massage the figures and include injuries to make incidents seem more numerous,
but those being all fatalities are numerous enough as it is. A few i remember in there; a lad i knew spent a few years in the nick for killing an old
dear who pulled out in front of him whilst he was driving with excess speed.

Thats quite good (for want of a better word!).
Interesting to see how many motorcycle based incidents their are, and alot where its just motorcycle(s) alone involved.
Would be good to go further a link to more details about the incidents, like local news reports and/or any court proceedings/results.

There was one last year near me that I am very aware of involving one of the Taxi's of the Firm that I drive for. I feel sorry for all those
involved, but it was just a pure accident of a type that no ammount of safety features could ever really guard against. The driver of the taxi (who
died, technically at the scene but legally in hospital later) had some sort of brain malfunction and he just veered straight out into another car both
were doing about 40mph (as confirmed by witnesses). The driver of the other car was seriously injured and the passengers of both vehicles had injuries
to some degree.
A lot of accidents are totally preventable, due to speed, driver ability, etc. However some accidents are just that totally random accidents and the
only way of preventing them is not to drive.
If you drive enough miles, you see a lot of carnage on the road and some of it is avoidable. I feel sympathy very much for the innocent victims of
accidents.

None on my estate. Intresting that I think I know the circumstances for well over half, and of those most were caused by people doing things they
shouldn't (In many cases not the people killed, but the people that ran into them).
90 in a decade doesn't seem to bad to me for the greater Ashford Area (TN23, if you wanted to check). It would be nice if it were lower and
things have been done to make parts safer (Like taking out a lane on the on/off ramps for the orbital where theres a cluster of motorbike deaths).
What did other people have as the total for their town?
In a White Room, With Black Curtains, By the Station.

Nothing anywhere near me.
That must be why the council spent a fortune a couple of years ago putting 10 pairs of speed humps in the feed road to our estate...

Not surprised to see that the highest stat is in my old stomping ground! You'd be lucky to work two shifts back-to-back without there being a
fatal accident nearby!

Very interesting . In my era (late 70's early 80's) i lost a few friends to RTA's. The gov and Police are slating "young
drivers" but looking at the local stats then the age group 23 to 30 are most at risk???
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Information is duff.. it lists one death on my road but I know there has been 5 at the same spot and the only thing they have done is lower the limit
from 60 to 40.
I think moving the telegraph pole thats on the outside of the bend right on the apex at the kerb would have helped 4 of them survive. And now the 40
sign is at the exit of the apex creating another hazard.

To be fair there is a link on there to report any inacuracy, there are two within 1/2 mile of our house, both very accurate.

to put it into perspective, although fatalities in this country are significant, data for other countries would be far more scary.

Hard to believe that there have been 0 fatalities along my 18 mile commute to work (8 miles of B-roads + a 9 mile run up the Fosse). I'm fairly
certain it's inaccurate, otherwise it must be some miracle. Also I'm fairly certain there are signs along the road saying there have been
x number of fatalities within the next 3 miles etc. (none of these show up on the maP)

I can't remember the exact figures, but Britain has the third least deadly roads in the OECD at a rate of about 5.5 deaths per 100,000
population. I'm in New Zealand now, where the drivers are abysmal. The death rate here is, I think, about 9. The USA is waaaaay down the list
with 14 deaths per 100,000!
I say "least deadly" because I haven't seen figures for overall accident/injury rates. Britain might have just as many
accidents as anyone else, but with the traffic calming measures we have they don't lead to so many deaths.
Back to this map - I noticed a few missing near where I live, but they were in 2010 and 2011, so they might have been too recent to get on the list.
It's interesting to look at stretches of road that are known for being black spots. There's an area just north of the Blunsden bypass near
Swindon. It's a dual carriageway with trees instead of a central barrier, and it has a few open sections for people To cross over from side
roads. These openings are 90 degrees to the carriageway with no slip road. After a death there in January 2010 they proposed to close the central
openings but I don't know if they've gone through with it yet. That death involved a lorry pulling out from the central crossing and it
got T-boned by a car, the driver of which was killed.
