Should get a good S2 rally for that. As above a Renaultsport Clio 172 is within budget also and there are some cracking builds on cliosport.net

If you are interested in a clio I can enquire with our neighbour at work who has a couple of clio cup race cars and has a couple of w reg or there
about clio 172's or what ever they were of that age.
One of them is a cat D with logbook and needs naff all to repair it, no real bother to you if your climbing it anyway.
It's no hardship for me to ask if you like.

A Clio Cup car would be well outside budget if it's in serviceable condition, the gearbox alone would blow the budget!!
A 172 Cup is a different matter though, and would be a good choice.

Have a good look at the class structure! Whilst you're starting out, you will be disappointed if your car is uncompetitive! As an example, if
you intend on running a car in a standard production car class, quite a few championships don't split this into classes for different engine
sizes. So a 106 rallye would be up against 2 litre Clios......
I ran a standard Clio Sport in a couple of events last season - bought off ebay on the Thursday night (£1600), sprinted on Saturday (class win),
hillclimbed on Sunday (class win). I did spend a bit on it after (the brakes were sha**ed for example) but didn't compete because of ill
health.
So, if it fits in a class nicely, I'd say the Clio is a really good option.

Wyn

i have looked and a s1 rallye is a1.3 with 100bhp so should do well in the up to 1400 cc class i think, woud like to use the kit in years to come but
want to get used to it with slower cheaper car

I saw him today,
It's a 52 reg cat D and he has all the bits to complete it, minor damage, IIRC its door and maybe wing damage and he is looking for £1500.00 for
it.
If you are interested I can get pictures of it. It is up on the ramp in his workshop at the moment so I don't really want to go badgering him to
get it down for me to photograph if your not no interested. - no obligation to buy based on a photograph you understand though.
Cheers
Colin
