ice race
our local track. I haven't done the ice race, just snowcross, which is one car at a time. This is just mental.

This is a race?
Looks like a load of people larking around on a frozen river!

Well, they started out packed together, but some guys are better than others. It isn't a river, it's a speedway parking lot! You can see
there is NO traction most of the time. When one car goes at a time, it doesn't get so worn down to the ice, and traction is possible. It is SO
much fun though.

What are the regs (4wd?, studded tyres etc?)

2 wd and 4 wd, no studs. One of the organisers mentioned something about "mechanically sound", but I've never seen much of that.

Just to make you cringe, the price is a whopping $30, plus taxes, so $34 for club members. The hardest part is doing the track marshalling between
runs. We all share that. Gets a bit nippy sometimes, so guys keep their helmets on half the time. The price is worth a trip over I think. Next year;
it's over for this year, bar Saturday's event coming up.

That looks like a lot of fun I guess speeds are pretty low so it's fairly safe as well, and not too much danger of totalling your car.

Most are totalled before anything starts... Your regular winter car is not a good idea.
As I said earlier, the ice race is a once a year thing, with our club, but snowcross is several times per winter. Rarely does anybody get out of
second gear, and I finished mid pack in 4wd, never going out of first. Needless to say, I was on the rev limiter a few times though! Snow banks can
still damage things, and do. Fortunately, there are plenty of cars around to buy for cheap early on in the year, and many share. Parking at the track
is free in winter too. Just take the battery home every weekend.

Looks like fun - I would have expected the Subi Forester to cope a lot better than it was - maybe just the driver or tyre choice or pressure
selection.
Although it did manage to pull itself out of some near spins.
