1.7 Zetec oil leak, serious?

Hi guys i know nothing of this engine in my Ford Puma but its making a mess of the drive. I bought it a few months back and noticed 2 oil spots, one off the power steering pipe that runs under the sump and one off the bottom of the gearbox. Looking at the gearbox leak it was clear it was dripping from the rocker cover but the other one is hidden under the timing belt covers.

I replaced the rocker cover gasket and it seemed to stop both leaks, but now its leaking again from the timing belt location onto the power steering pump pipe and then onto the floor. Is there any common locations i should look for in under the covers? (please dont say crank seal)

PS the last owner had the timing belt changed recently so could they have damaged something up there?

Cheers guys.

Check the crankcase breathers aren't blocked. That'd cause oil to be pushed out anywhere it can get. Take off the cambelt covers and look for oil around either the camshaft oil seals or, if there's none there, around the crankshaft oil seal. Oil leaks aren't common on them (well, not the ones I've seen).

If its under the cambelt cover there is an oilway blanking plug [allen key head] half way up the block I have had one leak and it covered the cambelt so it had to be changed.

cheers Ian this is what i had heard about but didnt have any details. will look for this over the weekend and also check the breathers.

cam seals looked fine when i took the rocker cover off but never got under the car to check the crank seal. hope its a loose bolt!

casn i just add that this car runs so much smoother than the 1.4 puma it replaced, pity i have to do all the common faults again but the oil leak is making a right mess of the drive and cant wait.
