Undersealing a classic

I've finished chipping off decades worth of underseal from my '67 amazon. It was (mostly) old and brittle so was a doddle to chip off, and it's done it's job well. I want to protect the underside of the car, but which route to go?

Replace what was there already (i.e. waxoyl)

Anything similar to waxoyl but better?

Ideally i'd like to shotblast and use an epoxy (mastic 121 or jotamastic) but the cost of blasting & moving the shell to the blasters would be too much. If I had to prep for epoxy without blasting I'd be there forever de-greasing the gooier remnants of the wayoyl and keying the metal in all sorts of nooks and crannies.

I'd like to sort this properly whilst it's a bare shell on it's side. I want the car to be useable year round.

cheers

Blast it yourself Im sure you can rent the gear. When down to bare metal apply some zinc rich primer then a topcoat of your choice. I would then spray it with Schultz with waxoyl added. Spray all box sextions with waxoyl

Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

If you can hire one for reasonable money, a hot jetwash would be a good and simple way of cleaning the underside of anything likely to chip or fall off in the future, plus leave it clean for paint. I would wire brush any rust and an epoxy primer of your choice. Then I would use stonechip paint, which I have found to be much better at lasting than underseal, then a topcoat and a liberal dose of waxoil or similar.

Just looked at hiring costs of sandblasting stuff and a compressor that will supply enough cfm. So that's that option out of the window

I'll get quotes from the 2 local blasters next to see how much they'll do it for if I take the shell to them

For the Camaro I plan on steam cleaning the underside which will remove all oil traces, then a quick key up with a soft pad. After that 2 coats of jotamastic followed by dinitrol.

The great thing about the jotamastic is its pretty resiliant on poorly prepped surfaces.
