BBC F1 - Classic Monaco

The practice sessions are on the red button, but they are also running classic F1 Monaco


Senna, Berger, Alesi, Mansell - No traction control, gearsticks and oversteer

I watched the 92 race on there yesterday, remember watching it live and willing mansell to pass him, at 13 i was so frustrated he didn't and couldn't work out why he didn't! lol. those were the days the whole family would sit and watch it and we'd order a Dominos half way thru.... ahhhh memories!

IIRC the reason Mansell wasn't able to overtake was that Senna's car had been fitted with a short-shift system.
This allowed him to go directly from say 4th to first without having to go down through the other gears, thus having the drop on Mansell every time they went through a slow corner - not a lot of people know that.
Then of course there's the question as to whether Mansell would have beaten Senna in a "straight" fight anyway - personally I don't think so.
