Post build "lull"

After all the excitement of getting the car legal and on the road, I now feel a little lost or at a loose end. Don't get me wrong I'm really enjoying driving the thing but after having it in the garage for the last 3 years with loads of work doing to it, its strange seeing a completed car in there. I've even contemplated decorating our bedroom to keep me busy FFS!

Has anyone else suffered with this or am I just a weirdo?

Its like women, you chase them for weeks/months/years, then when you finally bed them you realise 90% of the fun was the chase... so you have to find another!

So the answer is, build another car!

Same here, mines complete but not yet iva'd, tinkering with a few ideas for the next one.

As much as I love tinkering I really dont have the space or money to become a serial builder just yet

Usually when the car first hits the road you notice all those things that aren't 'quite right' and you spend the next five years doing mods and pretty much rebuilding the car...

Maybe you've broken the mold and got yours right first time...?

No definitly not I have an ever growing list!

1. Move indicator tell tales as I cant see them with my omp wheel and keep leaving the indicators on.
2. Seat needs moving forward slightly as the back is hitting the bulkhead.
3. It needs the geo adjusting slightly as its a bit twitchy above 60mph.
4. Bonnet paint is crap (this will be an over winter job)
5. fuel gauge needs reprogramming.
6. accelerator pedal needs moving slightly.

However all these (bonnet aside) will only take a couple of hours to sort out.

Don't do any trackdays, otherwise you'll be adding:-

7) Get some nice sticky rubber.
8) Upgrade brakes.
9) Fit much bigger engine.

...etc,etc.

You must realize zis is completely normal - you hav nozing to worry about and insanity is ze next okurrence.
Seriously have a look at doing Autosolos - grass roots motorsport which doesn't cost a fortune (apart from some extra tyre wear, motorclub m/ship and entry fee - normally £35/event)) .
You can drive your pride and joy in ways which would not be acceptable on the public highway and have huge fun doing it.
Youtube has quite a few clips to whet your appetite.
Cheers, Pewe10

Thank god for that! I thought it was just me that was getting cold turkey! I've done 100 miles so far, and whilst waiting for the new starter motor I've done the following:

Made/bent/finished all the parts needed for the windscreen. Just waiting for the sealing rubber to arrive then I can fit it.
Serviced the wiper motor (ready for the fitting once the windscreen is on and sorted)
Fitted a clock
Put the original front indicators back on
Welded up the mandatory cracked cycle wing mounts!
Changed the voltmeter for one I had before (the second one took an age to respond, the replacement reacts instantly)

Not looking forward to the amount of work I'll have to do when I get some serious miles under my belt

It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

my build is still a 'wee while' away from finished, but I've already got my next project in the garage waiting and it cost me exactly zero £ (a 'half restored' scimitar thats been off the road almost as long as I've been alive....)

(that is if I ever get the house finished to be allowed the time in the garage )

I had the same issue when I finished my Indy - when the weather was bad and there was nothing to be built in the garage I just kind of hung around the house annoying my family (I don't cope well with boredom and have been accused on many an occassion of being a mischevious child).

What I did end up doing was spend time making the car to be exactly what I wanted it to be, rather than 95% of what I wanted and 5% of what the SVA man wanted.

I was also planning on hillclimbing it before having to sell it.

However, I now have a westy which will be going up the Harewood Hill later in the year

Yep, know the feeling. Post build blues. I sold mine and took up racing instead.
