when offered up, the rear axle fouls the tunnel (off side) on my chassis

is this a common thing? can i trim the casing fins to compensate? don't have a prop yet so unsure if this will foul too??

any help much appreciated...

What axle are you using?

ooops - escort axle in a 'book' chassis

The diff on an escort axle is offset from centre and your transmission tunnel should widen towards the back panel to allow for this. This also ensures your propshaft doesn't run straight from your gearbox to your diff. You should widen the tunnel to miss the diff, not hack bits off the diff.
It should be something like this, although I didn't do mine exactly as the book which shows it widening on only one side of the tunnel:

Cheers David, thanks for the info and pics - your tunnel is much wider than mine - looks like i'll be chopping that bit out and re-doing it!!
