
My original brake pedal was crap. The original builder had a woeful bracket bolted to the floor which was just waiting to rip out. One of the first
things I did was make something a little more robust, but it was never good. Tonight I pulled it out and binned it. I've bought myself a proper
pedal in a proper mount from OBP.
Of course, nothing lines up. Part of the problem with the original pedal was that the M/Cs were too far apart, the geometry of the balance bar just
didn't work. Here is a pic of the footwell as it currently stands (sans pedal)
To completely align with the new pedal
both cylinders need to move down about 12mm and one of them move about 10mm closer to the other.
Access is atrocious and my welding skills are not good enough to cut the current firewall out and weld a new one in. Here is the view from the
otherside where the steering column and exhaust manifold make it more interesting.
What would you do?
let someone else cut it out and weld a new section in this has to be strong so as not to deflect on pressing the brake pedal
I'd... put it back together and worry about it in winter.
In the end I think you'll have to cut it out, make a new panel (complete with holes) and have it welded in. My panel also has a piece of angle
welded across on the inside above the m/cylinders to reinforce it as a few failed SVA due to flexing bulkhead.
Only alternative I can see would be cut out leaving a (20mm?) flange around, drill and bolt the new panel in. Probably put the panel on from the
inside so the bolts are onlt locating it and the presure is against the flange.
Have you got room for a hanging pedal setup?
Thats the way I would go.. and thats the way Im going for the midi...

Having just messed around with my pedal box I can say I hate the things. Access is awful and a ten minute job takes multiple hours. If I was you I
might just go the whole hog and dismantle the steering column, exhaust headers and anything else in the way. Cut a large opening in the panel and
premake the new section that includes enoungh metal to make it inflexible and include a access hatch for future adjustments. I'd then pay a
local known good welder to come round and weld my premade parts up.
I have had to cut a piece of my chassis due to the prop catching the narrow tunnel. I have had new parts plasma cut (for free as I made a sign for
him at work for naff) and a good structural welder at work is coming round to weld it up for me as a favour. Annoying and complecated but
it'sdone right.
I'm halfway through welding a new one in my Fury. I've cut the top and end off my old one and weld in 3mm plate to fit in an OBP brake and clutch box.

Thanks for the suggestions. There is just no room above the footwell for a top mounted pedal. My current plan is to cut out as little as possible,
but leave one hole which extends down from the current bolt holes (but not all the way to the chassis rail). I'll then get a larger piece of 3mm
steel and bolt this up. The pedal is somewhat self contained
so I'll also bolt it to the floor as well for a belt and braces approach.
