Well had the test today at leighton buzzard, and can say I nearly enjoyed it.

Far from the evil image I had of the examiners, they were both polite and helpful (2 testers as the inspector was being checked!!)

Below is a list of fail points, with the necessary corrective action, with only 2 being major, the rewelding of the chassis at the starter motor and replacing the rear brake line.

Glue on edge trim around boot box
Glue on edge trim on bonnet vents
Glue down wing mirror nut covers
Make dials none contactable (Speedo fell outside steering exempt area)
Cover edge of battery box in foot well
Replace gear lever (Momo knob not SVAable)
Tie wrap track rod end covers
Grommet hole for steering shaft out of bulkhead
Cover upper seatbelt triangles (from scappies)
Edge upper shock mounts
M18.5 tube inboard end
M18.5 locknut (green line tape not acceptable)
Ends of LC tube
O.S.F camber to be straightened (to cover outer face of wheel, falls outside of vehicle plan)
Replace steering wheel bolts or get pad.
Replace lock nuts for test (wheels) (wasn’t happy with seating)
Re weld chassis at starter motor (crap welds)
Re weld engine mounts O/S (poor welds)
Replace rear brake line and re route (was caught by diff nose movement and crushed)
Fit engine mounting bolt (stupid)
Shim panhard rod
Set toe out (no self centring)
Replace all fluid jubilee clips (was told BUGGER)
Replace fuel and brake flexy hoses (with ID’d items)
Replace bolts in handbrake system with clevis pins
Adjust balance bar and roll pin.

So I'll give it a few days for family life to calm down then back to the grindstone.

ATB Dan.

I'm well sorry you missed out. Although a long list, a great percentage of it is easily sorted. The welding may be a problem due to accessibility?
Question 1) - how was the weather, didn't look too good for you.
Question 2) - who were the testers? (just curious)
Question 3) Will you be at Sturdy's tomorrow? If the weather is good I'll be in the Hood, if not - the Metro
Chin up mate

It doesnt help when your tester is being examined himself,i had this on my test and you can see it puts yer man under a bit of pressure.

Still on the bright side the bits that can be a pain like emissions noise speedo and brakes were ok,just a matter of the engine hoist and the welder out again .

I'm sure you will be at brands.

Bad luck Dan. As said, all easily do-able, though the welding might be 'tight' to do, I am sure you will find a way.
Chin up, I am sure it'll be ok next time!

Dan, what was the emmissions reading?

Cheers folks,

Whipping the engine out will only take about 1hr (advantage of a hoist and a 2 pillar lift), so I'll do that and make the pipeworkand welding a lot easier.

As for emissions, noise and speedo, well they're what i was worried about.

Fozzie, the twin 40's were wound down too lean at 0.18%CO and 1016ppm HC, best wind it back up before i melt a piston.

907's exhaust was spot on at 98Db's apart from the 105Db's popping and back firing but he let them go

And the speedo was 3MPH out at 70.

The jubilee clips don't clamp evenly they clamp in a kind of D shape where the screw is so they let fluid past.

Pete,
1,the weather was d*gsh*t, soaking all the time there poor fella looked like a drowned rat when he came back from the drive about and mirrors test.
2, I was tested by Doug, good lad.
3, we haven't meet at Sturdy's for a while, look in the meets section for the new pub.

Locostmac, my mate came along from Southampton to see the test and he enjoyed it enough to contemplate bringing his car up to Leighton.

Atb Dan.

Bad luck Dan,
Fell foul of the 'tester being tested' thing myself, as did Bob!!

Came home with 3 pages of stuff to do, all thankfully minor.
Incidentally, my gear knob failed too. Was the first thing he saw (round type with badge on top)

Sorry to hear about the weather, I guessed it would be lousy. Doug was the tester for Dave's Dax (my lad) he was very good, allowed us to fiddle to get the emissions right, but we couldn't get the car through on the day due to some small things which couldn't be fixed, but more importantly, the bloody Dax dash was radiussed underneath lss than 19mm, but only just. It looked so right we hadn't even measured it. When challenged by phone, Dax said "Oh, yes, we've changed the dashes now".. Cheers, we thought....
I'll look on the forum for the meet.
Regards,
Pete
